Richard is the founding and managing partner of Nelwan & Co. He is a licensed Indonesian advocate and a member of the Indonesian Bar Association (Peradi). Practicing law since 2014, Richard has represented major governmental, local and international clients. He has extensive knowledge and specializes in regulatory compliance, start-up and SMEs, property, foreign investments, disputes, litigation, criminal defense, agrarian/land and general corporate matters. Richard previously assisted individuals, startups, small medium enterprises, and multinational companies in doing business in Indonesia.
Richard obtained his Indonesian law degree from Universitas Pelita Harapan (UPH) and his Masters in law from Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), both with cum laude predicates. Richard was elected as President of the UPH law faculty student senate, and extended his organizational experience as the elected President of the master of law student association in UGM.
Prior to establishing Nelwan & Co, Richard worked in a multinational consulting company where he was assigned as a legal and policy analyst to several Indonesian ministries to draft and communicate policies and initiatives with stakeholders from governmental institutions and multinational companies.
Richard later diversified his experience by joining a leading law firm in Jakarta as a Senior Associate, eventually appointed as a Partner. Richard was trusted to Indonesian and foreign clients, leading associates in general corporate and commercial matters, investments, property transactions, and litigation. His industrial experiences include: hospitality, manufacturing, medical & health, property & real estates.
Richard is also the founder and previously executive director of Wain Advisory, a consulting and research company based in Jakarta specializing in political, government relations, and public affairs
